My first contributions to the WordPress community were focused on the Polyglots team, translating WordPress-related strings into Costa Rican Spanish (es_CR).
During this process, I worked on translating text while trying to preserve the original meaning and make each translation sound natural to Spanish-speaking users. I learned that localization requires attention to context, terminology, consistency, and formatting.
One challenge was making sure that each translation was clear and appropriate for its intended use. I also learned that submitting a translation is only part of the process, because suggestions may need to be reviewed by experienced contributors before they are approved.
This experience helped me better understand how the WordPress community collaborates to improve an open-source project. I hope to continue improving my translations and contributing to a more accessible WordPress experience for Spanish-speaking users.
